What's Happening at Riverfield!

COMMUNICATIONS & FLYERS

In efforts to streamline our communication, we are phasing out the weekly Xpress newsletter. Instead you will be receiving the "Sneak Peek" on Sundays summarizing the week ahead from your PTA Presidents. It will be one of your primary source for all flyers being distributed by the PTA.  (Please download pertinent flyers, fill them out, attach payment (if needed) and return them to school.)

All other weekly submissions should still be sent newsletter@riverfieldpta.com and the information will be posted on the Riverfieldpta website or in the Friday Folder link.

Please make it a habbit and part of your routine to check Riverfieldpta.com or the Friday folder page.

NOTES & NEWS FROM ROCKY

Run for Rocky Family Fun Run & Picnic!
September 25th 10:30-2:00pm

WHY RIVERFIELD FUN RUN & PICNIC?

  1. By overwhelming numbers in our PTA Survey - parents wanted to eliminate Cookie Dough and were excited to introduce a healthier, family- friendly fundraiser. You asked - we delivered.
  2. ALL PROCEEDS GO DIRECTLY TO RIVERFIELD! Unlike other fundraisers - 100% of proceeds go to programs for our children.
  3. IT WILL BE LOADS OF FUN! Picnic with friends (bring lunch or buy from Super Duper Weenie truck). Root your children on as they run, they watch some free demonstrations and listen to the DJ "spin" some tunes.

We know the form asks for a "Preferred Race Time" - Just skip it! Runs will begin every half hour - pay now but feel free to drop by at anytime that day. You can even come back and forth in between sporting events. Children/adults can participate in runs at anytime! Don't forget participants will receive free raffle tickets for our great give-aways - American Girl Doll Basket, Lego Basket, Games Basket and more.

Registration forms are due by September 20th and extra forms are available in the main office. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer to help with this event, please contact Maureen Sawyer at ssawyer1@optonline.net.

Riverfield Cub Scouts, Pack 99, is actively signing boys up for the 2010/2011 school year
Meeting has been moved from
Wednesday, September 15 to Monday, September 20th
in the Riverfield APR

What are the benefits of Scouting?
Scouting gives youth the opportunity to try new things, be of service to others, build self-confidence and reinforce ethical standards. These opportunities not only help them when they are young, but carry forwardinto their adult lives, as well. What children learn in their formative years is instrumental in shaping their character. Scouting builds character by teaching confidence and self-reliance, and promoting positive role models as your child grows and develops. Through planned advancement, Scouts are always in a learning environment, increasing their capacity for goal-setting, choice making and accomplishment.

Why should my son join Cub Scouts?
The Cub Scout motto is "Do Your Best" and that is what Pack 99 strives to do.
In Cub Scouts your son will:
Learn new skills in a fun and safe atmosphereBuild self-esteem and confidence, Be prepared to meet new challenges, Develop a strong body, mind, and spirit, Make new friends and develop his ability to get along with others, Build character, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, pride and civic duty
Have fun!

Plus, we do some really cool stuff:
Earn badges
Go camping and fishing
Perform service projects such as food drives, clothing drives,Earth Day events, etc.
Do projects-pinewood derby, rain gutter regatta, holiday gifts, etc
Take nature hikes
Participate in special events such as den field trips, Memorial Day parade, the Blue and Gold banquet, etc

Does any of this sound interesting to you and your son? If so, come see what Scouting is all about! Please join us at our Pack Meeting at 7:00 on Wednesday, September 20 in the Riverfield APR.

To All 3rd, 4th & 5th Grade Parents,

Your child's science unit this year will be River-Lab, a hands-on, award-winning, environmental education program.  It makes up one-third of the Fairfield school system's science curriculum and meets CMT requirements. The concepts presented in the classroom are brought to life for the students during Study-Trips to Mill River. Each study-trip is led by trained parent volunteers guiding a small group of children! And the kids really ENJOY it...
